TikTok Parent Shuts Down Music Streaming Service in India

The company that owns TikTok, ByteDance, is stopping its music streaming service called Resso in India. A recent report says that the app will continue to work in India until the end of January, and after that, it will be closed. This move comes after the Indian government ordered the removal of Resso from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store in mid-December 2023.

Existing users can still use the service until January 31, but no new subscriptions can be purchased, either on the app or the website.

ByteDance confirmed this decision and mentioned that they don’t have any plans to introduce TikTok Music in India. They explained that they are shutting down Resso due to “local market conditions.” The company also stated that users who have remaining subscription fees will be offered a refund.

ByteDance, known for TikTok, launched Resso in India, Indonesia, and Brazil in March 2020. Similar to other music apps, Resso allowed users to stream audio across different genres and languages through both free and paid subscription plans.
